Dietz earned his only All-Star Game berth with a season for the ages in 1970, as he set career highs in just about every major offensive category.
He was third in the National League with a 6.4 Offensive WAR and was fifth with an OPS-plus of 1953. Among conventional stats was third with 109 walks and a .426 on-base percentage, fourth with 36 doubles, seventh with a .941 OPS and 10th with 107 RBI.
Dietz led NL catchers with 36 doubles, a .426 on-base percentage and a .941 OPS; was second with 22 home runs, 107 RBI and a .515 slugging percentage; and third with a .300 batting average and 82 runs. His OPS was nine points higher than that of MVP Johnny Bench of the Reds.
