Posey earned National League Most Valuable Player honors, as well as Comeback Player of the Year and his first All-Star Game start, with a remarkable return from a broken ankle that wiped out most of his 2011 season. Posey won the NL batting title with a .336 average, joining Barry Bonds as the only San Francisco Giants to lead the league in batting. He also topped the circuit with nine sacrifice flies and a 171 OPS-plus as the Giants captured their second World Series title in three years.
Posey also led the NL with a 7.4 WAR, was second with a 7.3 Offensive WAR and fourth with 117 Runs Created.
In conventional categories, he was second with a .408 on-base percentage, fourth with a .549 slugging percentage and a .957 OPS, sixth with 103 RBI, seventh with 291 total bases, eighth with 178 hits and 39 doubles and 10th with 69 walks. Defensively, he led all NL catchers with 38 runners caught stealing.
Obviously, Posey led all NL catchers with a .336 batting average. But he was also led the position with 103 RBI, 78 runs, 39 doubles a .408 on-base percentage, .549 slugging percentage and .957 OPS; and was second with 24 homers.
Posey was 4-for-19 with three runs, two homers, five RBI and three walks in San Francisco’s NLDS win over the Reds, went 4-for-26 with a run, an RBI and four walks in the NLCS victory over St. Louis and was 4-for-15 with a run, a homer, three RBI and a walk in the sweep of the Tigers in the World Series.
