Canseco made baseball history in 1988, becoming the first player to ever have 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in the same season, while taking home American League MVP honors. He was also an All-Star for the second time while leading the league with 42 homers, 124 RBI, a .569 slugging percentage, 76 extra base hits and 14.5 at-bats per home run as Oakland won the AL West for the first time since 1981.

He also led the league with a 170 OPS-plus and 41.0 Power-Speed number, was second with a 7.5 Offensive WAR and 136 Runs Created and seventh with a 7.3 WAR (fourth among position players). He also led the league with 5.9 Situational Wins Added.

Canseco was second in the AL with a .959 OPS, 120 runs and 347 total bases; fourth with 40 stolen bases; fifth with 10 hit by pitches; sixth with a .391 on-base percentage and 187 hits; seventh with 128 strikeouts; and ninth with a .307 batting average.

Canseco was 5-for-16 with four runs, a double, three home runs, four RBI and a stolen base in an ALCS sweep of Boston, but just 1-for-19 with a run, homer and five RBI as the A’s lost the World Series to the Dodgers in five games.
