Jackson’s first full season coincided with the franchise’s first year in the Bay Area and although he led the American League with 171 strikeouts, he at least scratched the surface of the Hall of Fame career that was to come as the A’s finished above .500 for the first time since 1949, when the franchise was still in Philadelphia.
