As good as Jackson would be four years later while winning his only MVP award, he was better in 1969, when he led the American League with 123 runs, 142 strikeouts, a .608 slugging percentage, 1.018 OPS, 20 intentional walks and 86 extra base hits while earning his first All-Star Game appearance, starting in center field, and finishing fifth in the MVP race.
