Conclusion

So far, the Giants have played excellent baseball. They’re hitting for power, they’re playing solid defense, and their bullpen has been dominant. Their starting pitching could use some improvement but overall, they’ve been doing everything they have to do to win ballgames.

The Giants could add some more depth to their roster though. Ehire Adrianza hasn’t done much at all for the Giants so far this season. He’s not patient at the plate, he hasn’t proven that he can hit at the big league level, and he’s made simple, careless mistakes on defense, which is supposed to be his biggest strength. Bruce Bochy clearly doesn’t trust him either, because he rarely ever gets a start and he only pinch hits when the Giants absolutely need him too.

Joaquin Arias is a reliable, versatile option off the bench. He’s struggled a little bit this season, but he’s still a valuable piece for the Giants. Hector Sanchez has come up big in clutch situations, and he’s proven to be a reliable backup catcher. Tyler Colvin burst onto the scene for the Giants, but he’s still somewhat unproven, in terms of consistency.

Especially with Belt out for at least six weeks and Scutaro’s status still unknown, the Giants could use more infield depth. With Adrianza contributing nothing and Arias struggling, the Giants should look to add another infielder to strengthen the bench.

Lastly, the Giants need to stay healthy. The Giants can’t afford to lose someone as important as Angel Pagan, Posey, Hudson, Bumgarner, etc. If they can stay healthy, look for the Giants to stay atop the NL West.
