STARTS: 46 at 3B, 18 at SS, 4 at 2B GAMES: 64 at 3B, 28 at SS, 12 at 2B Davenport, a Giant for his entire 13-year career, continued to give San Francisco solid work all over the infield, particularly as a late-innings replacement for powerful but defensively limited Jim Ray Hart at third base. He was 10th in the National League with eight sacrifice hits in a part-time role. Davenport got the bat going after the All-Star break, hitting .292/.370/.401 in 61 games, with 14 runs, three doubles, three triples, two home runs and 15 RBI and made the most of his chances in the final month, hitting .364/.417/.545 in 23 games, only eight of them starts, with eight runs, 1 double, two triples, a homer and five RBI. His bat control made him a solid option at the No. 2 spot in the order, where he started 30 times and hit .331/.391/.455. He also led off 16 times and hit sixth in 11 games. Interestingly, he even made two starts in the cleanup spot.
