Bonds was the All-Star Game MVP, his second selection to the Midsummer Classic, won his second Gold Glove and finished third in the MVP race behind Pete Rose of the Reds and Willie Stargell of Pittsburgh, missing by one home run of becoming the first player in history with 40 homers and 40 stolen bases in a single season. He led the National League with 131 runs, 148 strikeouts and 341 total bases.

He led the league with a 40.9 Power-Speed number, was third in the league with 130 Runs Created, fifth with a 7.7 WAR (fourth among position players) and a 6.1 Offensive WAR and eighth with a 143 OPS-plus.
