The Big Hurt made a successful return from a broken left foot that cost him almost all of the White Sox’ 2005 World Series championship season, signing with the A’s as a free agent before departing for Toronto at season’s end. In between, Thomas finished fourth in the MVP balloting and helped Oakland to the AL West title.
He was ninth in the American League with a 140 OPS-plus.
