Despite missing six weeks with a wrist injury, Sandoval earned his first All-Star berth and was among those given MVP consideration.

He was fifth in the NL with a 1.8 Defensive WAR and 10th with a 6.0 WAR (sixth among position players). Defensively, he led NL third basemen with 16 Total Zone Runs.

Sandoval was also ninth in the league with seven sacrifice flies.

He led NL third basemen with a .315 batting average, three triples, a .552 slugging percentage and .909 OPS; was second with 23 homers and 70 RBI; and third with a .361 on-base percentage.

When he returned from his injury, which cost him all of May and half of June, he got comfortable after the break, hitting .325/.370/.593 in 67 games, with 11 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs and 41 RBI.
