Spring training is on and Cactus League games are a little more than a week away and Golden Gate Sports is getting into baseball shape by looking at some of the best single-season performances in the history of the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants, by position.

Today, we look at the 10 best seasons by third basemen in the history of the Giants, dating to their arrival in San Francisco in 1958.

This is the fifth installment in the series on the Giants, as we’ve already listed the top 10 seasons for left field, relievers, catchers and second basemen.

To qualify for this list, players needed 100 games at the position for the season in question. This requirement was not prorated for the strike-shortened seasons of 1981 or 1994.

Before you turn the page, here are the five seasons that just missed the cut:

15. Bill Mueller, 1998
14. David Bell, 2002
13. Chris Brown, 1986
12. Jim Ray Hart, 1965
11. Darrell Evans, 1978
