Thompson had the best season of his career as the Giants set a San Francisco franchise mark with 103 wins in 162 games (the 1962 team won 103 games, but needed 165 games to do it). He won his only Gold Glove, made the All-Star team for the second team and earned MVP support.
He was seventh in the National League with a 6.3 WAR (sixth among position players) and a 4.9 Offensive WAR and ninth with a 1.6 Defensive WAR.
Thompson was also 10th in the league with a .312 batting average.
He led NL second basemen with a .312 batting average, .496 slugging percentage and .870 OPS; was second with 65 RBI, 85 runs, 30 doubles and a .375 on-base percentage; and third with 19 homers.
