Washington took over the full-time left field duties for the A’s in his first full season in 1975 and became one of the youngest All-Stars ever, playing in the game at Milwaukee County Stadium as a 20-year-old. He also earned some MVP support for what was a very solid season.
Washington was sixth in the AL with a 16.0 Power-Speed number.
Among more conventional measures, he was second in the league with 40 stolen bases, fourth with 182 hits, fifth with a .308 batting average and seven triples, 10th with 86 runs scored—and he did all of that as the eighth-youngest player in the American League.
In the ALCS against Boston, Washington was 3-for-12 with a run, a double and an RBI in the three-game sweep by the Red Sox.
