Henderson burst onto the scene in his first full season, igniting the Oakland offense as they improved from 54 wins in 1979 to 83 under first-year manager Billy Martin. Along the way, the 21-year-old became with first American League player to steal 100 bases, leading the AL with that precise total. He also earned his first All-Star Game selection and was a top-10 MVP finisher.
He was second in the AL with an 8.7 WAR and a 6.8 Offensive WAR, fifth with 120 Runs Created, seventh with a 16.5 Power-Speed number and ninth with a 135 OPS-plus.
