Bonds won his third straight MVP award, his sixth overall, and started the All-Star Game at designated hitter for the NL, his 12th All-Star appearance.
He led the league with 148 walks, a .529 on-base percentage, .749 slugging percentage, 1.278 OPS, 231 OPS-plus and 61 intentional walks.
In advanced metrics, Bonds topped the NL with a 9.2 WAR and an 8.6 Offensive WAR and was third with 166 Runs Created.
He was also second with 45 home runs, third with a .341 batting average and fifth with 111 runs.
But the Marlins wouldn’t pitch to Bonds in the NLDS, intentionally walking him six times in four games as Bonds was 2-for-9 with three runs, a double, two RBI and a stolen base, drawing eight walks in all as Florida beat the Giants—the last time Bonds would play in October.
