Hunter Pence

September 6, 2013; San Francisco, CA, USA; San Francisco Giants right fielder Hunter Pence (8) hits a single against Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero (26, left) during the second inning at AT

Pence is another player who was thought to be a potential trade candidate for the trade deadline. He was kept on the roster and has shown the Giants made the right move in doing so, for Pence has played well.

My favorite thing about Hunter Pence is how he stepped up his game. After Pence wasn’t traded despite the popular belief that he would be, Pence showed his gratitude to the Giants by stepping up his play. When Lincecum was pitching his no-hitter against the Padres, there was a scare there was going to be a hit, but Pence made a spectacular play to preserve the no-hitter.

Pence has also been known to fade after the All-Star Break. He is not doing that this year. As a matter of fact, he is batting much better than he was before. Despite an overall batting average of .289, he is batting .341 since the break, with five home runs and 25 RBI.

The bottom line is that Pence is showing he wants to play for the Giants by playing good baseball. He’s showing he wants to stick around, something I hope some other team mates will take note of.
