8) St. Louis Cardinals

There was a time when I would have ranked St. Louis as the number one team in Major League Baseball. But that was before the All-Star Break—another time. Since the break, the Cardinals have lost 16 games, the most of any team on this list. The good news, however, is that seven of them were in a row and to “top teams.” St. Louis got swept by Atlanta and then lost four straight to Pittsburgh. The Cardinals also lost a series to the LA Dodgers.

One one hand, if you’re going to lose, you might as well lose to teams ahead of you in your division’s standings and leaders in other divisions. On the other, the Cardinals would rather they won more of those games. They did win a series against Cincinnati and another against Pittsburgh (their most recent of their two series). Activating Yadier Molina from the DL should also help.
