7. The Infamous “What’s Your Deal?” Exchange, Jim Harbaugh vs. Pete Carroll, Stanford vs. USC – 2009
Before Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll were the head coaches of rival NFC West teams, they were at the helm of rival Pac-10 teams.
Perhaps the event that started the whole “Harbaugh vs. Carroll” rivalry was a blowout win by Harbaugh’s Stanford Cardinal in 2009 over Carroll’s USC Trojans.
Up big in the final minutes, Harbaugh decided to go for a two-point conversion instead of a conventional extra point after a touchdown. That did not sit well with Carroll, and the two were rather antagonistic towards one another during the postgame handshake:
