Barry Zito

Jun 17, 2013; San Francisco, CA, USA; San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Barry Zito (75) reacts after being taken out of the game during the sixth inning against the San Diego Padres at AT

Throwing Norris into the mix wouldn’t change Zito’s spot. As I alluded to in the last slide, the righty-lefty pattern would be kept, which isn’t a requirement, but it’s ideal, not just for the Giants but for any team.

The hot topic with Zito is the disparity between his home and road ERA. And yes, it’s quite a a number that’s becoming increasingly harder to ignore.

Observe:

Home: 56.2 IP, 2.06 ERA, 22 BB, 48 Hits
Road: 22.2 IP, 11.28 ERA, 8 BB, 48 Hits

There’s a 34-inning difference, yet Zito has allowed the same number of hits of the road than he has at home. That pretty much sums it up.

Granted, AT&T Park is very kind to its pitchers, but Zito’s road spilts are pretty gruesome.
