6. The Defensive Line

The 49ers need to build more depth on the defensive line. If Justin Smith and Aldon Smith can return from injury and stay healthy next season, this will certainly help. However, the Niners still need a stronger defensive line to provide a stronger pass rush.

The Niners defended the passing game poorly in the Super Bowl, partially because of issues with the secondary, but also because the Niners’ defensive line weren’t able to put enough pressure on Flacco.

With the departures of nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga and defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois, the 49ers will need to drastically improve the defensive line. They will most likely address this issue in the draft as well.
