The Sacramento Kings have been surrounded by a swirl of trade rumors in the wake of the Maloofs filing paperwork with the NBA to relocate the team to Seattle.
However, the Maloofs consenting to any trade at this current point in time will be hard to believe. Sources around the league have speculated that the Maloofs could dismantle, and trade away the team in an attempt to save more money in their current attempt to move and sell the team.
With the constant uncertainty surrounding the Kings and their future, speculation as to the future of the teams players remains equally uncertain.
The Kings have listened to offers from several teams regarding several of the Kings young stars. Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins have been sought after since arriving in Sacramento; and with the current status of the team continuing lead to a change in ownership, several other teams have renewed their attempts to lure one of Sacramento’s young prospects away.
Geoff Petrie has certainly entertained offers around the league, but more than likely has had little interest in any of them. Petrie is in the last year of his current contract with the Kings, and has been said to be over the hill or just at the end of his run with the team.
Petrie’s status remains as unclear as any of the Kings current players, and he has more than likely seen at least a little opposition from the Maloofs with regards to signing or trading players with large salaries. It is safe to assume that in the wake of the Maloof’s filling to relocate the team that the Maloof’s have other financial obligations in mind.
David Stern has stated that the NBA is currently reviewing the Seattle groups application to relocate the team. Stern has also continued to support Sacramento Mayor Johnson in presenting a counter offer to the NBA Board Of Governors. Stern has said several factors will play roles in deciding the fate of the Kings, stating the the level of support, and the the current proposals set forth by both cities to build arenas will be among several of the considerable factors.
The Kings currently remain in a neutral state of limbo with several fatcors playing into the situation. With Petrie’s potential departure in combination with the Maloofs currently filling to relocate the team, the Kings organization has left many questions with regards to the future of the current Kings roster.
