NFL Week 1: Fantasy Football Update As The Morning Games Wrap Up

Robert Griffin III throws a pass in the Redskins’ final preseason game. He’s certainly forgot the preseason, as Griffin III is having a great game against the Saints.

The NFL is back, and that means fantasy football is back. And, there are some players that are shining already.

Robert Griffin III, the second pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, has completed 16 of 23 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns in a marvelous debut. He has made great reads, put passes in tight windows, and navigated his way to a great performance and a 33-17 Redskins lead.

Fellow quarterback Matt Ryan also performed well, as he threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns for the Falcons. Ryan has made some great passes, just like RGIII, and his team is also dominating. The Falcons beat the Chiefs, who are expected to contend in the AFC West, 40-24.

Arian Foster hurt his knee and was questionable for the Texans-Dolphins game, but he has racked up 79 yards and two touchdowns for the Texans, who are cruising 30-10. Foster has received 26 carries and hasn’t shown any signs of underperforming due to his knee. Stevan Ridley is another running back doing well, as he has 125 rushing yards and has scored a touchdown. The Patriots lead the Titans 31-13.

However, perhaps the best fantasy performer (surprisingly) has been C.J Spiller, who started the day as a backup. I doubt this will affect anyone, but he will be someone you should try to pick up as a backup on waivers. So far, Spiller has racked up an incredible 169 rushing yards and a touchdown. Spiller’s athleticism has hurt the Jets’ defense, but his Bills are still going to lose the season opener.

Another bench-warmer, wide receiver Stephen Hill, has caught two touchdown passes for the Jets, who are cruising 41-21 over the Bills. Hill has 89 receiving yards and has emerged as a deep threat for quarterback Mark Sanchez, who has also done well. Pierre Garcon has 109 receiving yards for the Redskins, and he made a great catch and play after the catch to score on an 88-yard touchdown pass.

Matt Bryant was busy for the Falcons, as he made four field goals and four extra points. Nick Folk has made two field goals and kicked five extra points for the Jets, who have received a great defensive effort. The Jets (and the Texans) have forced four turnovers, as both have taken advantage of poor decisions by quarterbacks. The Texans have deflected a lot of passes and have eaten up rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Oh, and the Browns have eaten up Michael Vick. Vick has thrown four interceptions and LeSean McCoy has fumbled once, which is why the Eagles are losing 16-10. Joe Haden and D’Qwell Jackson have made some great reads for the Browns, who have received a terrible effort from rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden.

So, if you have any of these players, you’re in good hands. If not, good luck!
