The Oakland Raiders need some help up and down their roster, and lucky for them, there is a lot of help to be had out there.

The real feeding frenzy is going to get underway this weekend, as teams can begin negotiating with pending free agents this Saturday. The official free agency window doesn’t open until this coming Monday, but we’ll start getting an idea of what it’s going to cost to acquire the services of some of the players about to hit the open market.

But that’s not until Saturday. There is a crop of free agents already on the market by virtue of having been cut by their former clubs. There is currently a lot of talent floating around out there, ready for the taking, victims of the cold, cruel reality of the salary cap. And those players can be signed immediately.

Fortunately for the Raiders, they are armed with a lot of cash and roster spots available for players who still have something left in the tank.

Ahead of the blood in the water chaos that this weekend is going to bring with all 32 clubs around the league jockeying for position on players with expiring contracts, the Raiders would do well to at least have a conversation with some of the veteran cuts currently on the open market. For a team with as many needs as Oakland, nothing should be off the table.

So, since we’ve already looked at free agents the Raiders should avoid, let’s look at the other side of the coin, and take a look at a few current free agents Oakland should at least have a chat with…
