facebooktwitterreddit

Madison Bumgarner was as close to perfect as you can get tonight, allowing only one hit as he threw a complete-game shut out against the Rockies for a 3-0 win for the San Francisco Giants.

Bumgarner was nearly unhittable tonight and in complete control the whole ball game as he owned the strike zone throwing 24 of 27 first pitch strikes and striking out his season high 13 batters.

Tonight’s game was a pitchers duel for the first five innings. Through five innings the Rockies’ Jorge De La Rosa was nearly matching Bumgarner inning for inning as De La Rosa only gave up three hits and struck-out five.

  • In the sixth inning things began to finally change for the Giants’ offense. Pence walked to become the first Giants lead off hitter to reach in the game. Next up was Buster Posey. On a 3-1 pitch Posey hit one high and deep to left-center field for a two-run home run to give the Giants a 2-0 lead. De La Rosa was taken out of the game after the home run with an apparent injury to his throwing hand.

Buster Posey was a bit of a footnote tonight thanks to the dominating performance by Bumgarner. Posey had a great night in the batter’s box and behind the plate catching Bumgarner’s near perfecto.

Entering the eighth inning Bumgarner had only thrown 78 pitches while striking out nine. Justin Morneau led off the eighth inning as he reached out on a 1-2 curve ball and hit it down the right field line for a double to break up Madison Bumgarner’s perfect game. The sell-out crowd of 41,050 all stood up for Bumgarner in appreciation of his effort and incredible run at a near perfect game. Bumgarner fed off that crowd as he was able to strike out the side to give himself a total of 12 total strike outs in the game.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Posey hit another home run, this one a solo blast, half way up the left field bleachers. Posey ended up being the full supply of the offense for the Giants as he went 2-4 with two home runs and three RBIs.

In the top of the ninth inning Madison Bumgarner struck out Charlie Culberson for his season-high 13th strike out. The next two batters popped out and Bumgarner was able to get the the complete game, one-hit shut out giving the Giants a very big 3-0 win over the Rockies.
