Gaels Saddle Broncos on the Road

The Gaels got off to a quick start at the Leavey center in Santa Clara tonight with a 5-0 lead. St. Mary’s continued to dominate early going up by ten 22-12 with 10:08. The Gael offense went on a hot streak off of back to back three pointers from Beau Levesque. This brought the Gael lead to 31-16. The Gaels got up by as many as 15 with 8:01 to play. With 4:19 left the Gaels held their ground and were up 37-22. The Broncos came alive and went on a 7-0 run cutting the Gael lead to 37-29 with 3:05. The Broncos cut the lead to seven with 34 seconds left. St. Mary’s had a chance to score but could not get the basket. The Gaels headed to the locker room up by seven 41-34.

At the half, the Gaels went 15-26 (57.7%) from the floor and 6-10 (60%) from three point range. Leading the way was WCC player of the week Beau Levesque who went a perfect 4-4 from behind the arc and scored 15 points. Brad Waldow also hit double digits with 10. The Gaels put up 18 from the paint. Their bench had 22.

The Broncos shot 11-29 (37.9%) from the floor and 2-11 (18.2%) from three point land. Leading their way was Evan Roquemore and Raymond Cowels both with 10 points. The Bronco bench was shut down with zero. They scored 12 from the paint.

The second half was all Gaels. The Gaels continued to dominate their lead throughout the second half. With 11:59 to play the Gaels were up 17; 60-43. Off a three pointer by Levesque with 7:18 left the Gaels were up 68-49. The biggest Gael lead of the night came off another Levesque three with 3:54 to play bringing the Gaels up 21; 77-56. That lead held and St. Mary’s rolled over the Broncos 84-63 for the final.

Leading the Gaels overall tonight was Beau Levesque. He had a career high 24 going 7-11 overall and 6-7 from three point territory. Also in double digits were Brad Waldow with 14 and Mitchell Young with 12. Matthew Dellevadova had four (all free throws) with nine assists. Off the bench, Jordan Giusti went 3-4 scoring seven. Paul McCoy hit his first road game points with two.

The Gaels ended the night with 39 points coming from the bench and 36 coming from the paint.

For the Broncos, they finished the night 20-49 (40.8%) from the floor and 3-14 (21.4%) from three point territory. Leading the scoring was Evan Roquemore with 18. Santa Clara had Raymond Cowels with 14, Marc Trasolini with 13 and Kevin Foster with 10.

The Bronco’s bench put up 8. From the paint they hit 22.

The Gaels move to 9-1 in WCC and the Broncos drop to 5-5. The Gaels stay on the road and face San Diego Sat night. The game can be seen on ESPN U.
