Trade #2: Darren Waller (TE) & 1st Round Pick (2020) for Odell Beckham Jr. & 3rd Round Pick (2021)

The second trade scenario comes with parting ways with one of the most consistent bright spots for the Oakland Raiders’ young season.

Darren Waller has essentially served as the number one option on an offense that’s been spread out amongst multiple players. Derek Carr seems especially comfortable targeting Waller.

And for good reason. The tight end has been targeted 42 times, making 37 receptions for 359 yards. He leads the team this season with 71.8 yards per game.

After five weeks, Waller leads the NFL in receptions. He’s been a blessing for a depleted Raiders offense.

There’s plenty of good things to say about Waller — that’s exactly why a team like the Browns would be interested in a player of his caliber. He would be an immediate upgrade at tight end, and he’s proven to be a diamond in the rough on a cheap deal.

Raider Nation shouldn’t feel as though all of their tight end productivity would go away if this trade happened, however.

Foster Moreau should be seen as the real deal. While he might not be getting the same kind of credit that Darren Waller has received so far this season, Moreau shined in London, where he accumulated 46 receiving yards on four catches.

Moreau is a sensible starting tight end and could still contribute in a similar way as Waller if given the chance from both Gruden and Carr.

And even if he wasn’t able to rise up to those standards set by Waller in a really solid season, the receiving load should conceivably be relieved by the addition of one of the league’s top deep-field threats.

To sweeten the deal, the Oakland Raiders would also have to part ways with a first-round draft pick.

Just like in the previous trade hypothetical, the Raiders would give up the lower of their two first-round picks for the 2020 NFL Draft. There’s certainly no way they would want to give up a pick that say anywhere within the top twelve picks or so.

The Silver and Black could hang onto the better of those two picks for this year and still exchange their second pick for a player that could contribute right away.

And since draft capital is crucial for a rebuilding team, the Raiders would hopefully be able to snag a future draft pick in the 2021 season to help build toward a future team that’s modeled around Gruden’s vision.

The combination of a player that could work nicely with Baker Mayfield as well as a first-round pick for this upcoming draft should help entice the Browns.

And the Raiders might not want to balk at a deal like this either. It lands them a potentially premiere receiver while making way for another young player to thrive.
