Oakland Raiders: Three most important offseason additions
Kolton Miller, OT
The immense value of this addition to the team is directly tied to the team’s coaching change. The aforementioned move to a smash mouth offensive approach is one that can only work if the team possesses a great offensive line, much like they did in 2016.
Last season, this offensive line under performed big time. One of the main reasons as to why this was the case was the weakness at right tackle. It is hard for a line to be effective without two effective tackles.
This is precisely why the team selected tackle from UCLA, Kolton Miller, in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and it is also precisely why making this pick will turn out to be so impactful to the success of the team next season.
When the team was successful, the identity of the offense was centered around the offensive line. Making a concerted effort to try and return the unite to prominence was not only the right choice to make, but when we look back a year from now we will see that it was the only choice.
Miller will lock down the right tackle position from day one, and when the time comes for long time left tackle, Donald Penn, to leave the team, Miller will be given the responsibility of protecting Derek Carr’s blind side.
