The San Francisco 49ers will play their second game of the NFL preseason today against the Denver Broncos. Today’s game marks the first 49ers game at Levi’s Stadium. Although it’s just a preseason game, fans will enjoy getting to see their team play for the first time at home this season, and they’ll enjoy seeing their team’s brand new stadium for the first time.
Although preseason games don’t ultimately affect a team’s record for the upcoming season, this particular preseason game could be a fun one to watch. Many are calling this game a potential Super Bowl matchup. If the 49ers had been able to pull off a win against the Seattle Seahawks in last season’s NFC Championship game, they would’ve faced the Broncos in last year’s Super Bowl.
Speaking of the Super Bowl, the Broncos had a re-match with the Seahawks last week in their first preseason game. Fortunately for Broncos fans, the Broncos were able to avoid the beatdown that they experienced in the Super Bowl last year. They beat the Seahawks 21-16 last week.
In another previous Super Bowl matchup, the 49ers took on the Baltimore Ravens in their first preseason game. The 49ers ultimately lost 23-3 in a generally underwhelming performance from the team. Carlos Hyde and Quinton Dial impressed in the game though.
Since this is just the second week of preseason games, it’s likely that fans won’t get to see their starting quarterbacks or first-string offenses and defenses play for that long. Anytime that Peyton Manning comes to San Francisco though, it’s worth watching.
