It’s now officially June, and the San Francisco Giants still have the lead in the NL West. The city by the bay has had a lot to cheer about thus far, as the Giants are a dozen games over .500. The core of the pitching staff has been dominant, as they need to be.

The hitting has been streaky, but they haven’t needed to be a juggernaut thanks to the fact that the front of the pitching staff has been so strong. As long as the Giants can put roughly three runs on the board, the pitching has been steady enough to keep up their impressive winning ways.

The only real issue so far has been the bullpen, which has had its fair share of issues. The closer role seems to be slipping away from Santiago Casilla, along with his cool as of late. Most of the other roles are a rotating door thanks to injuries, call-ups, and send-downs. Injuries to Sergio Romo George Kontos, and Matt Cain have meant a lot of young players racking up frequent-flyer miles going to and from Sacramento so frequently.

When it comes to the Giants, they don’t usually make a ton of trade deadline moves. The moves that they do make are calculated and specific. If they don’t get the right price, they will move on; that’s the luxury of being a consistently competitive team for the last several years.

When it comes down to improving the team, the Giants aren’t desperate at this point. They have enough weapons to stay afloat in the NL West or at least the Wild Card until Pence and Pagan are healthy and Duffy heats up.

That being said, there are several players on teams who will surely be looking to deal at the deadline who could benefit the Giants immensely this year.  At the right price, any of these moves may make sense.
