With the bad break-up the San Francisco Giants experienced with Pablo Sandoval, there is now an obvious hole at third base. Sandoval had held down the position since 2009, albeit with some breaks and injuries in between.

The market for third basemen is quite thin. Chase Headley is the premier man at the hot corner, and he’s expected to command more than $12 million annually. While not everyone seems to be a fan of that potential deal, it would fill the role. Other available options include Sean Rodriguez, Alberto Callaspo, and Casey McGehee.

But enough about those free agents. The Giants have plenty of players who can fill that role without spending an exorbitant amount of money in free agency. There are also a couple prospects in the organization who could be considered as the third baseman of the future. Mitch Delfino (profile) and Ryder Jones (profile) are both stilll a few years away, however. So let’s take a look at the ones who are ready.
