49ers Lose on the Back of an Anemic Offense

The San Francisco 49ers hosted their heated divisional rival the Seattle Seahawks for a late night Thanksgiving match up. This game marked the first game the two teams had played each other since the Seahawks beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. The stage was set for redemption, but unfortunately for the 49ers, the game didn’t go as planned as they lost by a score of 19-3.

More from San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers entered the game hoping to get revenge on the Seahawks for what happened up in Seattle at the beginning of the year, but instead the team fell flat. Especially the offense, who seemed to be allergic to gaining yards this game.

The embarrassing display of offense in this game surprised just about no one, as the 49ers had struggled to put up touchdowns on lowly teams such as the Washington Redskins or the New York Giants. The struggling offense considered its streak, but this time the defense wasn’t able to bail the offense out.

Colin Kaepernick continues to do nothing to silence his criticizers, as the noose tightens around the 49ers’ playoff hopes. Kaepernick struggled to get any rhythm going, as threw for a lowly 121 yards on 16/29 passing with two interceptions to Richard Sherman along with no touchdowns. This game emulated Kaepernick’s struggles with the hot headed Seahawks’ defense, as he almost tests them on purpose as a way to get the upper hand pride-wise.

  • The running game didn’t fare much better against Seattle’s defense. Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde combined for just 47 yards on 15 carries.

Besides week one, the 49ers’ defense had been the group that was carrying the 49ers to whatever victories they earned. Tonight they weren’t able to overcome the abysmal play by the offense and carry the team to another victory. The defense made key stops all game, including a goal line stand, and kept the Seahawks to just one touchdown and four field goals.

Despite keeping potential points of the board, the defense allowed the Seahawks’ offense to rack up yards. Marshawn Lynch ran for 104 yards on 20 carries, and Russell Wilson threw for 236 yards and once touchdown.

The 49ers couldn’t get anything to go their way this game, and they suffered a devastating loss. With how close the NFC playoff race is, it will take a miracle for the 49ers to grab a spot in the playoffs.
