Logan Mankins was the latest name to switch teams in the NFL. Are there any trade targets on the circuit for the Oakland Raiders to scope?
Davon House – CB – Green Bay Packers
D.J. Hayden is on the PUP list with another injury and the Raiders secondary has struggled throughout the preseason. More help may be needed, particularly at cornerback. In that case GM Reggie McKenzie could possibly contact his old team, the Green Bay Packers for some help. Green Bay is fairly deep at the corner position with Tramon Williams, Sam Shields and Casey Hayward as the set starters. That doesn’t even include Davon House, who has had a solid preseason. The Packers have other good bodies even behind him so giving up a talent like House wouldn’t hurt them that much. Meanwhile Oakland gets a more reliable body in coverage to help out their front seven.
Brandon Pettigrew – TE – Detroit Lions
The other primary position that has done next to nothing for Oakland in the preseason, and really the past few years is tight end. Hopes remain high on third-year man David Ausberry, but he’s rehabbing from knee surgery and backup Mychal Rivera doesn’t look the part of a serious starter. The Raiders passing game can’t really open up unless they find somebody to fill that void. Interestingly, the Detroit Lions just picked up a young talent in Michael Egnew off waivers, which is unusual considering they already have three tight ends projected to make the roster in Eric Ebron, Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria. While Egnew is far from proven, his presence allows the Lions to be more flexible, and of the three the one viewed as the most expendable is Pettigrew who is viewed as somewhat of an underachiever despite topping 560 yards in three of the past four seasons.
Either player wouldn’t solve all the problems in Oakland, but there is no doubt they would help.
