Oakland A's Fall Short Again, Drop Fourth-Straight Game

The Oakland A’s fell for the second-straight night to the Atlanta Braves, this time losing 4-3.

The losing streak continues for the Oakland A’s as they have lost their second series in a row, and overall have dropped six of their last seven games. Picking up his seventh loss of the season was Sonny Gray who gave up four runs on eight hits although he did have a good strikeout to walk ratio of 5:1. Gray went 5.1 innings.

The Atlanta Braves jumped on Gray early by scoring twice in the first inning. Their runs came after an RBI double by Freddie Freeman followed by a Chris Johnson single just two batters later.

The Braves would go on to add a third run of the game to make it 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth that saw Andrelton Simmons pick up an RBI.

In the top of the sixth inning the Oakland A’s would finally get on the board as Stephen Vogt blasted a two-run home run that also brought in Brandon Moss after he reached base on a walk.

Atlanta answered right back in the bottom of the inning, however, on Chris Johnson’s second RBI of the night. Justin Upton also tallied his second run of the night on that same play.

In the top of the eighth the Oakland A’s closed the lead to within one after a solo home run by John Jaso. Unfortunately the A’s would be unable to get any closer as they would eventually fall by that same score of 4-3. Craig Kimbrel would ensure that by coming into the game for the ninth to shut the door on the struggling Oakland A’s.

Tomorrow afternoon the A’s will try to avoid the sweep with Jon Lester (3-0 2.49 ERA since joining Oakland) set to take on Mike Minor (4-8, 5.33) in a battle of southpaws. If anybody can get this struggling A’s team out of a funk, it’s definitely Lester.
