Top Five NFL Fantasy Options: AFC West

The fun is about to begin for NFL fantasy league.  Here is a quick peek at the top options available by division, starting in the AFC West.

#5 – Philip Rivers

His fifth Pro Bowl campaign couldn’t have come at a better time for the San Diego Chargers and for NFL fantasy owners.  Philip Rivers proved that if he’s protected he can still dissect defenses.  With an improving defense that should give him more chances and a rising star at receiver in Keenan Allen, Rivers could best his 287 fantasy points from 2013.

#4 – Kansas City Chiefs defense

Injuries really did a number on the Kansas City Chiefs defense, especially late in the year.  Before that though they were racking up points like a pinball machine.  Despite their top two pass rusher missing six games and problems in the secondary, they collected 204 fantasy points off of 47 sacks, 15 fumble recoveries and four return touchdowns.  If health stays on their side this year, they should be even better.

#3 – Demaryius Thomas

Josh Gordon barely edged out Demaryius Thomas for the best NFL fantasy wide receiver in the league.  All told the Pro Bowler had 227 points to his credit as the Denver Broncos ravaged defenses across the league.  Even if the unit might take a step back, Thomas remains one of the best receivers not only in the division but the league as well.  The fact that Peyton Manning is still his quarterback doesn’t hurt either.

#2 – Jamaal Charles

It didn’t matter that defenses knew who was getting the football for Kansas City in 2013.  Running back Jamaal Charles burned them anyway.  His 1980 combined yards and 19 touchdowns set a torrid pace to a whopping 308 fantasy points.  Matching that mark is certainly possible, especially if the Chiefs can draw attention away from him on offense.  However, even if he comes up short Charles remains the best offensive weapon in the AFC West.

#1 – Peyton Manning

But the best NFL fantasy producer in the entire league has to claim the top spot.  Peyton Manning and his inhuman 5,477 yards and 56 total touchdowns topped out at a ludicrous 409 points for fantasy owners.  Asking him to do that again is unrealistic but that doesn’t mean the five-time MVP won’t be at the top of the heap again.  His offense is loaded and he’s still healthy the last time one checked.
