The San Jose Sharks announced Friday that the club signed forward Melker Karlsson to a one-year contract.
The 23 year old most recently played for the Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League in the 2013-14 season. He had 25 points and 14 penalty minutes over the course of 48 games. Karlsson has reached the SHL Final with Skelleftea AIK in each of the last four seasons.
According to the NHL, Karlsson “finished the season ranked T-7th on the team in points, 3rd in faceoff percentage (52.8%), T-5th in assists and 8th in goals as Skelleftea AIK finished with the best regular-season record in the league (111 points) for the second straight season.”
Karlsson will be an excellent fit in terms of the franchise trying to add youth to the lineup.
