The San Francisco Giants manager, Bruce Bochy, holds Memorial Day at a special place in his heart. Coming from a military family, Bochy was born in France. His father was stationed there as a U.S. Army officer at the time.
The Giants honored those men and women who serve our country by wearing camouflage baseball caps. In addition, all lettering and numbering on the players jersey’s were also in camouflage. Bochy takes the day seriously, and stated “I think it’s important for all of us to show our thoughts and appreciation for those who died for our country.” It’s no small feat for someone to offer their lives to keep the lives of all American’s safe.
Those mentioned in the NLF include: Roger Staubach, Rocky Bleier, Kevin Greene, Ralph Wilson, Pat Tillman, and Alejandro Villanueva.
Historical MLB players who served include: Christy Mathewson, Jackie Robinson, Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio, Stan Musial, Bob Feller, Warren Spahn, Willie Mays, Ty Cobb, and Ted Williams.
