Plenty of people are already questioning San Francisco’s first-round pick, and we’re here to pick you up. Here are the reactions from around the league, many of which are positive. Let’s not throw the A.J. Jenkins tag out there just yet.
Ward definitely posted some pretty impressive stats last season in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) finishing the season with 95 total tackles, 10 passes defended, and seven interceptions. He also picked up a career-high 14 tackles in the 2013 Orange Bowl against Florida State. Ward was a four-year starter for the Huskies. Again, very impressive.
We’ll start out with some pretty high praises drawing comparison’s to Earl Thomas.
Love Jimmie Ward…one of the best nickel cover guys in the draft. Poor man’s Earl Thomas coming out of Texas.

Also, as many thought, the 49ers will be looking to start him in the slot and filling the corner roll that was one of their top two needs. But, they have more plans as well.
Per source: #49ers will start Ward as a nickel and groom him to be a safety to take over for Bethea

Even former 49ers safety Donte Whitner chimed in about San Francisco’s draft choice.
Congrats to Jimmy Ward! I see why they picked you bro, you have that mean streak! You’ll learn a lot from that entire defensive staff!

And, to top it off, he looks good donning some 49ers gear!
