Former 49er Carlos Rogers Signs With Oakland Raiders

UPDATED: 6:44 p.m. 3/31/14

The Oakland Raiders announced Monday evening they have signed a second former San Francisco 49ers cornerback, Carlos Rogers.

Rogers was released by the 49ers earlier this month to clear cap space. Tarell Brown signed with the Raiders as a free agent earlier this month after spending seven years with the Niners.

CSNBayArea.com reported the deal was for one year.

Rogers, 32, earned a Pro Bowl berth in his first season with the 49ers in 2011, intercepting a career-high six passes after signing as a free agent.

Rogers started all 16 games for San Francisco last season, with two interceptions, eight passes defensed and 47 tackles. But he was hampered by an injured hamstring and missed the team’s first two postseason games before coming back to play in a reserve capacity in the NFC Championship at Seattle.

Rogers has 17 career interceptions in his nine-year career. He was the ninth overall pick in 2005 by the Redskins after an All-American junior year at Auburn.

Dude been washed up, for two years now

Washed up? He’s been a starting cornerback for one of the best rated defenses in the NFL. In two years he’s played in one Super Bowl and one NFC championship game as a starter. Explain to me how he’s washed up. The 49ers only let him go because they can’t afford to keep him with all the other big-money names on their team they have to pay. Terrel Brown, Carlos Rogers, DJ Hayden. Sounds like a pretty damn good secondary to me. Maybe you know something I don’t about Carlos Rogers? Oh… Nevermind I just Wikipedia him.

In 2012 he was the NFL network’s 69th best player in the entire NFL. Not by position either, but over all. In 2013 he had 47 tackles and two interceptions. How is that washed up to you? I’m just curious as that seems like a pretty solid season.

So explain to me why every team n the nfl ain’t kicking this dudes door down? He plays zone coverage well I’ll give him that… U know what , I’m gonna apologize to you n raider nation I’ve been a fan for 41 years n I am just so fucking frustrated that if they were to sign Jesus Christ I would have bitched about dat… I’m wrong n you’re right…go Raiders!

I’ve been a fan for 39 years and I’m equally frustrated brother. But we are Raider Nation!!! Keep your chin up because you know when we do turn this ship around, and I do believe we are on the right path. There will be shockwaves and it will be epic. No one does it louder and prouder than us.

Rogers is 32, and this is the most stacked with talent draft that’s been around in a while from what I’ve read, and right now there’s just not much of a market for a cornerback. Not many teams have the cap space like the Raiders do at the current moment, and bringing a guy with his leadership/ability to win games is a good thing. We need guys on our team who know how to win brother, keep the faith. Go Raiders!!!

            Thanks brother!! Go Raiders!!

Prefect, well in my opinion. I like the veteran corners we picked up this off season. Legit mentors for D.J Hayden. We should draft another DB in the draft! Can’t wait to see them play. Raider Nation is hungry!!! Let’s do this Dennis Allen, win us some games!!! Now’s the perfect opportunity to show us you’re a worthy Raider coach!!! Just win baby!!!

Right now Reggie Rogers is 32 but he still plays at a high level, will be used in the slot for sure
I like this guy good for depth.

This was a must do move by Reggie. After losing Phillip Adams, Jenkins and Porter, we lack depth. We not only got depth, but an upgrade.
