Pacific Tigers Swamp Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Storm Into CIT Quarterfinals

The Pacific Tigers shot 58 percent from the floor Saturday night at the Spanos Center and blew out the visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 89-60 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Postseason Tournament.

Pacific (17-15) took control of the game with a 14-2 run in the first half and led the Islanders (18-16) 46-28 at the half.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, out of the Southland Conference, had reached the second round with an 82-71 win at Northern Colorado on Wednesday, while Pacific pulled out a two-point win at Grand Canyon to reach the second round.

Sama Taku led the Tigers with 15 points and had six rebounds. Tony Gill finished with 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds; Ross Rivera scored 13 points and David Taylor scored 10 off the bench.

Joy Williamson was the lone Islander in double figures with 15 points and also had three steals. Rashawn Thomas had six rebounds and John Jordan dished out eight assists.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was 25-for-50 (50 percent) overall, 5-for-17 (29.4 percent) from deep and 5-for-18 (27.8 percent) at the foul line. Pacific was 35-for-60 (58.3 percent), 6-for-20 (30 percent) and 13-for-15 (86.7 percent).

The Tigers had an enormous edge on the glass, 37-21, and each team committed nine turnovers.

Pacific will await its quarterfinal pairing. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday.
