The Sacramento Kings announced Friday they have recalled forward Royce White from their Reno Bighorns affiliate in the NBA Development League.
White, a first-round pick of the Houston Rockets in 2012 whose career stalled because of anxiety issues related to a fear of flying, could make his NBA debut on Sunday when the Kings take on the Minnesota Timberwolves to close out their season-long seven-game road trip.
He was signed to a 10-day contract on March 6 and has played four games with the Bighorns, starting two, while averaging 8.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 24.8 minutes per game, shooting 36.7 percent overall and 33.3 percent from 3-point range.
His pro basketball career has now consisted of 20 games in the D-League. He appeared in 16 games for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Houston’s D-League affiliate, last season.
The Rockets took White 16th overall out of Iowa State in the 2012 draft, but cut their losses and traded him to the 76ers along with the draft rights to Turkish forward Furkan Aldemir and cash considerations in exchange for future draft considerations.
Philadelphia cut White in the preseason and he was unsigned until the Kings came calling earlier this month.
