Walter Thurmond Visiting San Francisco 49ers

Free agent cornerback Walter Thurmond of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks finished his visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars and said via Twitter he’s headed west to meet with the San Francisco 49ers.

“Red” is a reference to defensive end Red Bryant, who was cut by the Seahawks last week and signed a four-year deal with the Jaguars earlier this week.

Bryant and defensive end Chris Clemons have both made the cross-country journey from Seattle to Jacksonville to reunite for former Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, now head coach of the Jaguars. But Thurmond is weighing options.

Thurmond missed four games last year due to a suspension, but had his first career interception, six passes defensed, a sack and 33 tackles in 12 games, three of which he started. He had three tackles in the Super Bowl win over Denver, the only postseason start he made last season.

He is apparently getting at least a bit of social media heat from fans in Seattle, based on this tweet:

Thurmond was drafted in the fourth round by the Seahawks out of Oregon in 2010.
