Veteran cornerback Eric Wright took to social media Tuesday to reveal he is returning to the San Francisco 49ers after playing out his one-year contract.
Wright played in just seven games with the 49ers last season, making one interception and defensing two passes while recording seven tackles.
The 28-year-old Wright was on the non-football injury list for what the 49ers called a “personal matter” to start the season. He had been traded to the 49ers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in July 2013, but the trade was voided after Wright failed his physical. The Bucs then released Wright, who signed with San Francisco in August.
He was originally a second-round pick by the Browns out of UNLV in 2007 and spent four years in Cleveland and played one year each for the Lions and Buccaneers before coming to the 49ers.
He has 15 career interceptions.
