Madison Bumgarner Sharp In San Francisco Giants Win Over Colorado

Opening Day starter Madison Bumgarner had his second straight scoreless outing of the spring and the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 3-2 at Salt River Fields near Scottsdale, Ariz., on Tuesday.

Bumgarner (1-0) allowed two hits and struck out one and has now fired five scoreless innings this spring.

Ryan Vogelsong also had a solid outing, allowing a run on three hits with a strikeout in his three innings of work.

The Giants (3-3) got two runs in the fourth off veteran LaTroy Hawkins, with an RBI double by Tyler Colvin scoring Brandon Belt before Colvin came home on an infield single by Tony Abreu.

Gary Brown lined a single to center in the seventh to score Chris Dominguez to give the Giants a 3-1 lead.

Colorado (1-5) got its first run in the sixth on an RBI double by Ryan Wheeler and then touched Jake Dunning for a run in the ninth on a single by Jason Pridie.

Edwin Escobar allowed a walk in a scoreless seventh and George Kontos worked a scoreless eighth for San Francisco. Dunning earned his first save of the spring despite surrendering a run on three hits.

The Giants banged out 13 hits, but stranded nine runners on base. Juan Perez and Belt had two hits apiece. The only extra base hits were doubles by Belt and Colvin.

The Giants are back at Scottsdale Stadium on Wednesday to host the Los Angeles Angels at 12:05 p.m. Pacific.
