The Oakland Athletics took advantage Clayton Kershaw’s walks on the wild side Monday, knocking the two-time Cy Young Award winner out in the third inning of a 7-2 Cactus League win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Kershaw (0-2) didn’t record an out in the inning as Oakland (4-1) scored seven runs against the left-hander and reliever Brandon League.
Billy Burns went 1-for-3 and stole his fifth base of the spring for the A’s.
A.J. Griffin got the start for Oakland and allowed two runs on four hits in two innings, striking out two. Sean Doolittle (1-0) worked a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Jim Johnson worked a 1-2-3 fourth, punching out one, Josh Lindblom allowed a run on three hits in three innings while fanning three, Fernando Abad allowed a hit and struck out two in an inning of work and Jeremy McBryde allowed a hit in the ninth.
The A’s will play two on Tuesday. A split squad will host the Milwaukee Brewers at Phoenix Municipal Stadium at 12:05 p.m. Pacific, while at the same time a split squad will be at Cubs Park in Mesa to play the Chicago Cubs.
