Cold-Shooting UC Davis Aggies Can’t Hang With UC Santa Barbara

The UC Davis Aggies made just four 3-pointers in 19 attempts Saturday at The Pavilion, falling behind the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 9-0 and never recovering en route to a 67-54 loss.

The Aggies (9-20, 4-10 Big West Conference) didn’t get their first field goal until a Corey Hawkins jumper 7:28 into the game got UC Davis to within 12-4.

The Gauchos (19-8, 10-4) led 32-23 at the half and got up by as much as 15 points in the second half before the Aggies cut the deficit to eight at 57-49 with 3:18 to go.

Michael Bryson scored 19 points for the Gauchos and Zalmico Harmon finished with 11 points and six assists. Alan Williams had 10 rebounds.

Hawkins was the lone Aggie in double figures with 16 points. Clint Bozner had five rebounds.

UC Santa Barbara was 23-for-52 (44.2 percent) overall, 4-for-14 (28.6 percent) from deep and 17-for-24 (70.8 percent) from the free throw stripe. UC Davis was 17-for-44 (38.6 percent), 4-for-19 (21.1 percent) and 16-for-27 (59.3 percent).

The Gauchos dominated the glass, 43-20. The Aggies had 10 turnovers while UC Santa Barbara committed 12.

UC Davis closes the season on the road, starting Thursday night at UC Riverside at 7 p.m.
