Brittany Boyd scored eight points in overtime and posted a triple-double, while the No. 18-ranked Cal Golden Bears survived an upset bid Thursday night at Haas Pavilion with a 75-68 win over the Washington State Cougars.
But it was the Reshanda Gray show for most of Thursday for the Golden Bears (21-7, 13-4 Pac-12 Conference), as she scored a career-high 43 points to go with 16 rebounds.
Cal led by as many as eight points in the first half before the Cougars (15-14, 9-8) rallied to close to within 43-40 at intermission.
Boyd missed a pair of jumpers in the closing seconds of regulation that would have won it for the Golden Bears as neither team was able to score after Lia Galdeira tied the game for Washington State with a basket with 1:34 remaining.
In the overtime, Cal never trailed, opening the session with a free throw by Gray and a basket by Boyd after Gennifer Brandon was able to track down Gray’s miss on her second shot from the line.
Boyd has just five points in regulation on 1-of-15 shooting, but finished with 13 points after making her only shot from the floor and hitting 6-of-8 from the line. She also had 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Brandon finished with 13 boards and three blocked shots.
Tia Presley led the Cougars with 15 points and also had 11 rebounds and four assists. Shalie Dheensaw finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds and Galdeira had 13 points and four assists. Sage Romberg had 10 boards but scored just eight points on 3-of-15 shooting.
