The Cal Golden Bears outscored the UCLA Bruins 6-0 over the final 1:58 of the game and got out of Pauley Pavilion Friday night with a 77-72 victory.
Atonye Nyuingifa made a pair of free throws for the Bruins (12-15, 6-9 Pac-12 Conference) with 2:17 remaining, but Afure Jemerigbe made two from the line on Cal’s next trip down the floor, putting the Golden Bears (19-7, 11-4) up 73-72. While Cal missed five field goal attempts on its final two possessions, Jemerigbe and Brittany Boyd hit four straight free throws to seal the win.
It was close throughout, with neither team taking a lead larger than seven points all night.
Jemerigbe scored 15 points for the Golden Bears. Boyd finished with 14 points, six assists and four steals, Gennifer Brandon had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Reshanda Gray notched 13 points and 15 boards and Courtney Range had 11 points.
Nirra Fields had a game-high 30 points along with five assists for the Bruins. Nyingifa finished with 22 points and seven rebounds and Thea Lamberger tossed in 17 points to go with five assists and three steals. Corinne Costa blocked three shots.
Cal was 24-for-61 (39.3 percent) overall, 8-for-23 (34.8 percent) from 3-point range and 21-for-31 (67.7 percent) from the free throw line. UCLA was 29-for-57 (50.9 percent), 4-for-12 (33.3 percent) and 10-for-18 (55.6 percent).
The Golden Bears had a 45-30 edge on the glass, but the Bruins had fewer turnovers by a 15-11 margin.
Cal finishes off its final regular season road trip on Sunday at USC at noon.
