Golden Gate Sports continues to recap some of the best single-season performances in the history of the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants as we anticipate Opening Day.

Today, we look at the 10 best seasons by starting pitchers in the history of the Athletics, dating back to their arrival in Oakland in 1968.

This is the sixth installment in the series on the A’s and will conclude with the best players by position in the history of each franchise. So far, we’ve featured the 10 best seasons for the A’s at at shortstop, catcher, left field, second base and for utility players.

To qualify for this list, a player needed 20 starts in a season. This requirement was not prorated for the strike-shortened seasons of 1981 or 1994.

Before you turn the page, here are the seasons that just missed the cut, extended through No. 20 because, hey, there are a lot of starting pitchers who qualified:

20. Mike Moore, 1991
19. Gio Gonzalez, 2011
18. Matt Keough, 1980
17. Barry Zito, 2003
16. Mike Torrez, 1976
15. Dan Haren, 2007
14. Trevor Cahill, 2010
13. Catfish Hunter, 1974
12. Bartolo Colon, 2013
11. Mark Mulder, 2003
