Las Vegas Favors Seattle For 2014; San Francisco 49ers listed at 8-1, Oakland Raiders 200-1

According to one Las Vegas insider, the San Francisco 49ers have the second-best odds to reach Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale, Ariz., a year from now.

Betting expert R.J. Bell of lists the Seattle Seahawks as the favorites at 7-1, followed closely by the Denver Broncos and the 49ers at 8-1. These are the only three teams with odds in the single-digits; the next closest is the New England Patriots at 12-1.

As far as the Oakland Raiders? Well, they are with the Jacksonville Jaguars at 200-1—the longest shots on the early (and, man, do I mean early) board.

These early odds are fun, speculative ventures that have little to no basis in reality. There’s a whole free agency period that these numbers don’t account for, as well as that little thing called the NFL Draft that often shifts paradigms for teams.

The Arizona Cardinals, who will serve as Super Bowl hosts next season, are listed at 30-1. Super Bowl hosts are currently 0-for-41 at even reaching the big game at the end, much less winning it. Why 41 instead of 48? The NFL has held the game at non-NFL stadiums seven times (five at the Rose Bowl, once each at Rice Stadium in Houston—for reasons that defy logic—and Stanford Stadium).

Rounding out the odds in the NFC West—the new behemoth among NFL divisions—are the St. Louis Rams at 40-1. In the AFC West, the Kansas City Chiefs are 30-1 and the San Diego Chargers are 40-1.
