Oakland Raiders fullback Marcel Reece will play for Team Sanders at the Pro Bowl in Honolulu on Sunday.
The only Raider selected for the game was among the players chosen during the inaugural Pro Bowl draft Tuesday night on NFL Network. The game has a new format this year, with conference affiliation scrapped in favor of “fantasy” teams being selected by Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders.
Reece was assigned to Team Sanders after Team Rice selected Mike Tolbert of the Carolina Panthers, the only other fullback available.
Eight San Francisco 49ers were initially selected for the game, but none of them have chosen to participate. However, rookie safety Eric Reid was named as a replacement for Kam Chancellor of the Seattle Seahawks, who can’t participate because of the Super Bowl.
Other members of Team Sanders Tuesday night either selected or assigned include running back Jamaal Charles (Chiefs), punter Brandon Fields (Dolphins), long snapper J.J. Jansen (Panthers), guard Kyle Long (Bears), center Alex Mack (Browns), guard Logan Mankins (Patriots), defensive tackle Gerald McCoy (Buccaneers), defensive tackle Dontari Poe (Chiefs), center Mike Pouncey (Dolphins), special teamer Matthew Slater (Patriots), defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh (Lions), defensive end J.J. Watt (Texans) and guard Marshal Yanda (Ravens).
Watt and Charles will be the captains for Team Sanders, which will be coached by Chuck Pagano of the Indianapolis Colts.
Besides Tolbert, Team Rice includes special teamer Justin Bethel (Cardinals), quarterback Drew Brees (Saints), defensive tackle Marcell Dareus (Bills), guard Jahri Evans (Saints), guard Ben Grubbs (Saints), defensive tackle Jason Hatcher (Cowboys), punter Johnny Hekker (Rams), center Ryan Kalil (Panthers), center Nick Mangold (Jets), guard Evan Mathis (Eagles), long snapper Matt Overton (Colts), defensive end Robert Quinn (Rams) and defensive tackle Kyle Williams (Bills).
The captains for Team Rice will be Brees and Quinn, with Ron Rivera of Carolina coaching.
The remainder of the players will be drafted or assigned on Wednesday, beginning at 5 p.m. Pacific on NFL Network.
